Hi, i am setting up my first tank and cant figure out why the filter sock area of the sump is overflowing. And if i turn the return pump hogher it drains the return chamber fast but filter sock area still overflowing. Ive opened gate valve more also but then just makes a ton of noise. Someone please help!

Is this a new tank? Do the filter socks need to be changed?

The flow rate will always be regulated by the area of most resistance. Think, 4" pipe to 1" pipe. Sounds like your filter sock area is constricted, by either bad sock or ?? pull the sock and see what happens next...

Welcome rmorrison.
1. Maybe you are trying to push too much water through
2. The sock is clogged, clean it
3. The sockshould be more porous, 200 microns or so
4. How much flow can the return pump push, is it more than the sump is rated for

Vectra m2 2000 gph, have it turned way down to like 20%, also brand new filter sock that came with the tank...waterbox 220.6...it's like a 40 sump

Sorry, doesn't make sense, that sump and sock should handle 2000 gph.
Fwiw, I run without sox, using a refugium and skimmer.
