I’m making a stand, but curious on the supporting needs for a sump. Will a few random cross boards under plywood help support the sump or will I need a perimeter supporting layout like my display?

I always put a piece of 3/4 plywood on the bottom, with the 2x frame built on top. This allows for a ~3 1/2" deep space for the sump to sit in so that when (not if) there are spills/overfills the water is contained inside the stand. It also provides for more space inside the stand - no sense at all to wasting that precious space with cross pieces that just are not needed. I seal the inside with FlexSeal, or just good paint and calking to create a water tight area.

What size sump? The sump is an aquarium, too, so in general, the support requirements will be the same.
