I'm setting one up on my tank soon. Will be a Carlson to start. May switch to borneman later. May also take it out completely if it causes too many problems with my Bean animal.

I think between BA drains and so many advanced powerhead options surge tanks are not common anymore.

I looked into this as well for a 120. There are lots of designs out there. I did not end up building one but one of the challenges I could not see a way to resolve was how to do an ATO sensor. The best design that I saw was a toilette flush mechanism that worked very well.

I tried using the Borneman style of surge device but my particular device kept draining into my DT and would never really fill up and then drain using the toilet mechanism. I did some research that you have to create a u in the plumbing to allow the water to build up slowly and then surge into your system. After several attempts and modifications, I just decided to scrap the whole thing and stick with some spare MP10's I had.

Wish you the best of luck.
