SWC 160 vs. Vertex IN100

I'm in the market for a new skimmer and have found both of these used and was wondering if anyone has experience with either one. Any feedback will be appreciated. :)

I have an SWC 160 and love it. I have it on my 125 and it cranks.... Quiet, easy to maintain, and a great price.

Thats a pretty small tank for a 160 cone. You'd be better off with a 150bmk than a 160 cone as it is a better fit. The size of the 150bmk and vertex are really close, the swc has an internal pump where the vertex has an external pump. The bmk pulls 650-700lph air where the vertex 100 pulls around 400-450lph air. Either one would work well for your tank.

Luke without a doubt knows his skimmers. I'd trust this guy. Mojo is another skimmer guru. Hopefully he'll chime in for you too.

for the smaller tank I would go wit hthe vertex in 100. Neither one have awesome pumps. But both do work well. I would look at something Like the SRO 1000. The bubble blaster is a much better pump. Also the neck size on the 1000 is better suited for your 40g. The vertex in 100 is the same as the reefdynamics in100 for the most part. But has a added bubble plate. They are nice skimmers for sure. But if it was my money in your situation I would opt for the sro 1000 int or Something on that line.
The BMK I had pulled about 500 lph of air and the vertex pulled about 420. However the vertex seemed to pull more water. No way to measure it but the pump seem to cycle the water better. With that said I feel the vertex in 100 really needs about 600 t0 700 lph of air to be balanced out better.... I could go on for sometime here but all in all dont go too large on a small tank like that. It doesnt pay off in the long run.
