Guys, I am in the market to buy a protein skimmer for my 400 gallon again.....the one that I got from a reefer at r2r broke during the shipping. I think I am going to buy a brand new one on labor day this time. I have been debating between swc 300 cone skimmer and reef octopus 5000sss. Please advice.

We have a 300g DT (450g total volume) and are using the SRO 6000sss. It's a BEAST and we couldn't be happier with it.

I was debating between the reef octopus xp3000 and the swc 230 cone for my 250g system. I went with the swc and I have no regrets. They make a solid product, never had any issues.

What is the difference between 5000sss and 6000sss? They are using the same pump.

I've used both brands, couple different models and they both make great skimmers. Go with whichever one you can find cheaper ;)
+1! They both make great skimmers for a reasonable price.

Both are fantastic skimmers for their price range. I've got an SWC at the moment and have no complaints!

Thanks guys...I just pulled the trigger on SWC 300 skimmer with askoll pump.
