trying to figure out with sump to get for my new 200g. Both similarly priced and sized. Similar options as well. Seems the synergy is prettier so to speak but that's kind of whatever to me. advantages?

In my humble opinion, both sumps are tried-and-true and you can't go wrong with either. I own a RUBY series sump and in 5yrs have never had one issue. Reportedly, synergy are also well made and have a great following, can't ever recall anyone saying anything negative about either. Best advise I could give is buy what fits your needs both in form and function without a lot of needed modifications.

The Trigger Systems tideline sump is very aesthetically pleasing and in photographs looks like a great purchase, I bought it because it was larger than the Synergy Reef sumps that were out at the time and it was a bit cheaper..... With that being said, the filter sock chamber doesn't work very well because water gets underneath the socks rings, and can be very noisy if noise is a concern, these are things that have supposedly been fixed in later models of the Trigger Systems sumps (Ruby/Emerald etc.). I had no idea that this sump had flaws and even spoke to a trigger systems employee about how to get one through email, it would've been great customer service if said employee had tried to steer me towards one of their other sumps knowing that the tideline had some flaws that have been corrected, but they did not. I do feel let down and it's been a purchase that I wish I could go back and never make, but there's almost no information on this sump and hardly any customer reviews to go by. I was briefly back in contact with them about these issues and basically they told me there was nothing they could do to help my plight, they basically said it was up to me to figure it out. If I wanted to DIY a sump I would have used a 40 breeder, I mean let's be real here.

I'm biased but I would say the Synergy 44 [emoji6]

I agree with 143MPCo, purchase what fits your needs.

While our sumps do have that wow factor with how it looks, we also put a lot more details into the finished product. One Example is we chamfer the edges on everything that has a 90 degree exposed edge. This eliminates you getting cut on sharp edges. We only use the highest quality materials, no what we can get cheap to make margins. Each one is hand built by myself. You won't find our sumps in every store around because we don't mass produce them. We only produce small quantities for a reason, quality. This attention to detail is what sets us apart from others. Our customer service is also where we stand high above others.

Oh yea, plus we are active reefers that support the community :-)

Instead of buying a new sump I purchased this,

and with minor tweaking every now and then I can eliminate most of the noise from the socks. If you have this sump (or any sump with too much detritus) and are stubborn and don't want to put the drains directly into the sock like me, the quick vac pro has worked pretty well for me so far but not sure about long-term use yet.

I own a Trigger Systems Tideline 48 and love it. I purchased it at the time because it was slightly bigger than the SR available at the time, fit my needs nicely and I could have a LFS order it for me. I have been very happy with it, don't have any noise issues at all that others have spoken of.

On a side note, I did order a Synergy Reef Ghost Overflow and after I installed it, and tested plumbing for leaks I found that the external overflow box was leaking on 3 out of 4 seams. When I called to get it corrected the solution presented to me was to send me a tube of weld on 16 and just fill the gaps. That is unacceptable to me, especially considering I spent 200$ on an overflow box. Because of that I will likely never own a Synergy Reef product again.

That is terrible to hear, I would of figured better customer care than that from Synergy. Did you post in the Synergy forum on R2R......maybe see if there is a better resolution...

@dburt520 This is not how we would have handled this. When did this happen? Can you PM me your order # and name. We rarely had any leaks with our external boxes on the older overflows and would have just replaced it unless otherwise requested not to.

I assumed it would have been as well. No, I did not post in the Synergy Reef forums. It was purchased from BRS, and when I reached out initially for BRS for assistance, they advised me to contact them directly, which I did. BRS reached back out to me to find out if the issue was resolved they sent me out a brand new one no questions asked when I explained the situation.

I thought you said they only offer Weld on 16......but BRS did replace the overflow. I can say i have only interacted with Synergy through R2R and through email and so far they have been very helpful and quick to respond. I have seen nothing but good reviews online.

I did get the tide line and am pretty happy with it. Can't say I love it but I'm definitely happy with it. I have some splashing sounds that come from the water falling into the socks but not as much as the noise running through my drain pipes but that's on me. I have also found that the Amazon 7" socks fit so much better than the ones that came with it

Hate to here someone paying good money for a product and its not meeting their expectations. I had to make a choice on three big sumps and Black Friday 2015 made it for me. The Trigger Emerald 39 was 20% off and my wife said it was a no brainer, IT'S ON SALE! I love this sump, I have it sitting in my fish room behind the DT. I haven't had any negative issues with it. I like different options it give you. I don't feel like I'm stuck with one option. Couldn't imagine having it hide away under a aquarium stand. My day starts there and ends there. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

His product was replaced. What expectation was not met?
