Are the clowns residing in any particular coral?
Have you recently added new fish?

Iv not seen them messing with coral but chance they are with goni or setosa . Only coral there really ever near.
I did add new fish about a month ago.

Clowns often darken with age. Clowns may develop Hypermelenization from being stung by corals.
If you begin to see white patches than I would suspect a disease process.

Also,
Non of these black patches are on any of the white bands at all. As well as the face.
If that makes any difference...

my mom had a clown like that, got all these weird dark spots on it. i eventually found out what black ich was so she had me QT her and when it didn't go away humblefish said it was probably just hypermelanization. i've had her in a non medicated observation tank for about a month now and she is losing the spots, although my understanding is some are probably permament.

unfortunately i don't have any pics from when i first got her, she was covered and looked very similar to yours. she also apparently didn't host any corals in my mom's tank, but got the spots anyway. weird
