I am in process of placing an order for a custom 72x24x25 or 72x30x25 euro braced peninsula style tank for a mixed reef. The stand will be 36" tall.

The price only goes up a few hundred $ to make it 29" tall. I am looking for those of you who have, or have had a taller tank. Do you regret buying a tall tank?

I currently have a 27" high 150g (not peninsula), with a heavy canopy and I can just reach the bottom with my hands, and need reachers for the back, with the canopy on. I'm about 5'10. The new tank will be a peninsula, no canopy. Lights will be suspended 12-18" over tank. Thanks

Looking to buy a new 240 in 2021

I'm not worried about the tank depth. Its all about the STAND HEIGHT.... Looking at 36" Stand minimum

Deep tanks are a PITA bc you can't reach the bottom of the tank even with arm fully submerged

I personally think the taller tanks are amazing looking because there’s so much more room for viewing and fish swimming.

I couldn’t ever buy one, I’m not sticking my hand all the way in and tilt my head to get to the bottom just for a clown to come by and surprise me with a kiss. I would lose a gallon of water instantly that way.

I have a 30" tall tank, 36" stand, 5'11". I use a painters ladder to get access. I do end up having to take my shirt off and go shoulder deep but I can get to every spot in the tank. I did plan for this a little - I have access on 3 sides so I can move the ladder around. If the tank was wider than 6ft it's be real hard to get the middle areas, for that you'll need arm+reachers. I also bought/installed a roller motor that is mounted to the ceiling. The lights are attached and with a remote I can move the light and get easier access to the tank. I bought a motor that can lift 200+lbs so if I wanted a canopy one day it'll handle it.

Mine is near 34" tall. 48" deep. No regrets. The best assistance I have with those dimensions are my tongs and grabbers. They perform all the dirty work

Agreed. Guess it depends on how long your arms are but on my 30” it’s the last few inches of glass that I wish were closer. Getting to the bottom middle of tank for rock work and such even worse

My tank is 30” deep on a 36” tall stand and I have never regretted it. I like the extra swimming room it offers. I can’t really reach the bottom in front and definatly can’t reach the bottom back. But tongs are inexpensive.

I have a 30" tall tank. I like the look but HATE dealing with it. I have an assortment of tongs and long tweezers that are needed to do anything close to the bottom.

I think my next tank will only be 24-25" tall to make it more manageable

I like the look of the taller tanks as well. As mentioned more swimming room for fish, and added water volume. Yes tongs/reachers have become very useful in my 27 tall tank that has a canopy sitting on it, which further restricts access. By the way Biff, like the lift on your lights.

It seems as with many tank/equipment choices it may come down to preference, and being ok with having to use a ladder and tongs to maintain your tank.
