Any of yall know what tang this is? Seller is listing it as a “yellow fin” and says its close to a Mata tang but not a mata tang.

It seems to actually be a Yellowfin Tang - Acanthurus xanthopterus:
Yeah, this would be my guess too - Yellowfin Tang, Acanthurus xanthopterus; the striping on the eye on these tends to go straight/curl down from the eye while the Dussumieri Tang's eyestripe tends to go up from the eye.

Ah cool! Thank you. I was wondering if it was a miss identified dussumeiri tang since those also come up when I searched yellow fin tang

100% sure it's Xanthopterus rather than Dussumieri. Yellow fins get BIG
Yeah, trying to decide if its a good fit for my 300 gallon. The sellers tank is a 125

Also looks fat and happy!
Yeah it does! Considering snagging him. I guess he fights with the guy’s batfish and he likes the batfish better lol

300g is plenty more than 125g so can only be a good thing in terms of swimming space
Yeah thats what I thought also but they are very large fish and if I take it I want it to be able to be happy and me not have to rehome it because it outgrows my tank cause I will not be upgrading lol as I already upgraded from a 125 and just cant go bigger floor weight lol

Agree with the above IDs, personally I wouldn’t put one in a 300. An LFS I used to live near had one in their probably 15’ display and it was a solid 2’ long. It made that 15’ display look like a kiddie pool when it wanted to swim fast. Not a species that should even be in the hobby IMO

Yeah thats my dilemma too but I feel bad that he is in a 125 right now. Tough decision

tell him you will take it for free just to give it a bigger home but will need to be rehomed at some point too.
prob. a public aquarium.

does it fit your stocking plans for the 300? would be a bummer if you have to stock the tank around this fish unless its your dream fish.
IDK I would pass they get huge IMHO I would reather have 3-7 smaller fish that this beast of a tang, but hey that just me :)

I was going to get a vlamingi from him and that is one of my dream fish! As of now my stock is a damsel, one clarkii and my 4 eels. I have a regal being QTd for me. I have a stock plan but would have to re consider with this fish if it does get 2 feet???
