Cool! That makes me feel better so I can get it out of that crowded 125 gallon and then take some time to find a good home for it and not be super stressed about it finding a home in like a week or so.
Oh yeah you should have much longer than a week!!

I would not keep too many tangs in a 125. Maybe 3 smaller species at the most.
I would not keep Atlantic Blue, Valamingi or Sailfin in a 125. These species just get too big for this tank IMO.
What do you think about those tangs in my 300 gallon though? Im getting the yellow fin and one of the 3 vlamingis he has for sure. I am 100% going to either take the yellow fin to an aquarium or see if my LfS has an account tank thats big enough for him when he outgrows my 300. I just cant in good conscience leave him in that 125. I will hold off on the larger tangs or get them as babies with the big boy in there for the time being

I would contact Angel at https://www.cokoirescue.com/ if you need help re-homing the Xanthopterus.

His rescue specializes in koi ponds, but he has a ton of contacts in the community and he actually helped me move a 120 gallon salt two weeks ago. If he wouldn't know where to house it, I'd be very surprised.

I would try and re home well before he outgrows, just so you can continue with your current plans.

To me you're just doing the fish a big plus... I'd keep for a month or so just to ease the stress.

I would avoid the Vlamingis in a 300. I know you said this fish is in your bucket list but I do think they get too big for almost all home aquarium. How big of an aquarium is big ebough? I never though much about it except thinking that my 420 is not even close to the size this fish species need.

Maybe Ill also have to do the same thing with the vlamingi as the yellow fin then, this same guy has 3 of them in his 125…
