Hello my reefing family,

I have to discuss the few things with you . Actually my 4 years old tank crashed badly. I was about to udgrade the tank and dealer did not sent the tank.

So all my corals and fishes I kept in a plastic box with oxygen food and wavemaker.

When I got up in the morning wverything was dead from fishes to corals.

Now I started checking the parameters

Salinity 1.023
Temperature 25 degree Celsius

Alkinity 10
Ph 8,46
Mag 1700
Cal 456
Nitrate 78
Phosphate . 15

Now as I have to setup the whole new tank I am very sad and broken should I use the old rocks media and start the new tank as fresh or old tank water can be used.

Regards
DDK

Probably lack of oxygen or a spike of something like ammonia.

I’d use the same rocks, and few cups of sand, and maybe 25-50% of the water from the old system. That will help kick start the new tank. Grab you a cup of skimmate too.

So sorry to hear this -- it's a sad tale that many of us have been through.

The good news is now you can set up things the way you want to do it without worrying about impacts on the existing inhabitants.

I'd ditch the water and start with fresh saltwater. There's a chance that your tank dieoff could have released unknown toxins in the water.

I'd keep the aquascape and do a rip clean of the substrate (if you have any). Rocks are just too expensive to throw out.

Good luck!

Just throw some carbon in the new tank if you’re worried. With no fish, not much to worry about.
