What depth is good for a Emperor? I've got a baby Emperor at the moment. He's quarter sized. He's getting an upgrade in the fall!

I'm looking at a variety of tanks, from a depth of 16" - 24".

Does anyone have opinions on that?
I'm thinking of getting a longer but shallower tank to spread the weight over more of the floor, but I want to provide him with adequate space too. Am I over thinking it?

Yah, my current is 24" and it's at the limit of my ability to reach without getting on a step stool. It's why I was thinking of potentially a 20" depth, but I also want to do right by Marcus Aurelius!

20” would probably Be fine, as long as by depth you mean vertical. Front to back I wouldn’t do anything smaller than 24”, even then I’d prefer 30”.

They are big fish and although horizontal space likely more important they are also not likely appreciative of shallow tanks. As stated, 24-30" would be preferable but I get the issue with ability to service the tank although might sacrifice some convenience to better showcase an exquisite full blown adult.

Sprung has an Emperor in his tank and I don't believe it's greater than 27" if I recall correctly and might actually be shallower as he originally planned for a Tunze wave maker. No hard and fast rules and likely that raised in shallower than perfect adjust and especially considering very few home aquariums outside of Pollo will ever provide proper depth.

There's also the reality that going taller than 27" requires thicker glass and that's a possible concern as far as total final cost and weight demands where placed.

Yah, I definitely don't have the resources to polo reef this! Haha!!

I'm thinking 60 long x 24 deep x 30 front to back
