Had the same substrate, tank, rock for probably 6 or so years. Had a tank meltdown a few years ago. It took forever to get rid of the algae. Like a year ish. I've been battling algae on a small scale for a long time. Does anyone recommend AGAINST doing a tank refresh? (New substrate and potentially new rock as well. I'd prob just frag most of my corals to carry over.

I would probably suggest not and rather get to the root cause of your current issues. What occurs in your current system, without understanding could occur in a rebooted tank as well.

Correctly identifying offenders is often essential in troubleshooting issues. Do you have microscope?

  • I think it depends mostly on the technology.
