So I've repaired cracks in tanks before. In a display just for good measure I'd usually replace the pane or the tank itself but this is for a sump.

Also I've usually had to repair the bottom pane not a side pane. So question is being a side pane does that make it any different? Will pressure be different and would it not be worth repairing the crack being a on the side pane?

I'd value the 'worth' of the repair being the time and money involved in replacing the tank if and when the crack grows.

Realistically, if you "brace" the crack with another piece of glass (siliconed over the crack), it would probably last a long time. But if it fails when you are on a week long trip to Disney Land, how much equipment will get ruined, not to mention livestock and of course, flooring.

I drilled a tank once (standard 20 gallon) and cracked the glass. I literally just filled the crack with silicon and it was fine for the year I had it operational.

Yeah because it's a sump I don't really care for looks so was going to silicone a peice over the top on the inside and add a brace on the outside

I have repaired my 70 gallon sump crack that went across a bulk head.. I put a new piece of glass on the inside and re drilled the bulkhead thru the repaired glass... I also put a piece of glass over the over flow holes in the top back of the tank when i turned it into a sump...... this was done at least 5 years ago
