What are your plans for the tank? Softies, lps, sps, Mix of all three? What kind of fish do you want to keep? Generally everyone will say go as big as you can handle. I myself prefer the 40 gallon breeder (36x18x16)

Go as big as you are allowed by your wife/mother. If single, turn a whole room into a tank.

No seriously, get the size you want the first time so you don't have to upgrade down the road.
