Hi all, Thanks for having me Long time browser and sponge, first time poster. I hope you guys can help me out. I've been in the fish game for almost 20 years, the last 12 into reef keeping so I'm not a total noob. Anywho I have a friend who i setup a few years back a 60 gallon in his upscale martini bar. He has sold the bar and the new owner doesn't want the fish I will be rehoming most of these to friends and my local club members. There is however a pair of black bonded clownfish I would like to keep. I am torn on which tank at home to add them too. I have a rescue tank of 60 gallons (clown trigger, few damsels, engineer goby) or my office frag tank (12gal no fish).

My question is would be taking the pair from the 60 gallon and putting them in the 12(36 long) be too much stress on them? Thanks for all input in advance.

Welcome to R2R! There will be some stress when moving fish, with that said, putting them in a 12G(?) might be pushing it. How big are they? Will they be the only fish in the tank? Are they currently hosting something? Will there be something in the new tank that they can host? The answer to these questions will determine if they'll be ok in a smaller tank. Keep us posted!

If they are a pr of black ocellaris, then they will be fine in a 12g. Even though they were in a 60g, clowns are very site oriented, so it is unlikely they used much of the space available to them.

They are not hosting in anything and are pretty much full grown. They are actually some very large clowns

IMO you can move the clowns into a 12 gallon until you can acquire a larger tank for them. I would not put the adult clowns in the 60 gallon with an established of clown.

Aww Clown Trigger, hmmm. Do you have a breeder box to acclimate the clowns in the 60 gal?

I do not think placing the clowns in the 12 gallon will be too stressful, but I do think two large clowns in a 12 galllon tank is not ideal, but it can be done.

Personally, I wouldn't risk the clowns in a 60 with a clown trigger. One of these days it will snap, and those clowns will be lunch.
