Tank to Hot?

Alright so today was a warm day were i live it go up to 95.With that said my tank temperature also rose from 78 to 81 during the day.I have a open top with no lid.The lighting on the tank is 2 bulb t5 over a 20 gallon tall tank.Will I be needing A chiller on my tank or do you think i will be fine?During the summer its between 95 and 102 where i live.Please let me know if I will need a chiller for the summer and if I do please tell me which one to buy?

once it hits about 85 i would start worrying. For a small tank like that, it would be better just to buy a room ac unit, keep the inside of the room around 72 degs and your tank will stay cool also

Well the room temperature is 73 degs. Do you think I will be okay without a chiller

you dont need a chiller. just get a small fan to hang on the tank to blow accross it under the lights, that will drop the temp a good 1-3 degrees no problem. and save you a lot of money over buying a chiller

petco had some cool fans that hang right on the side of the tank and you can point the air to go right across the tank you might look there. they were a zoomed product.

Also, what size is your tank? If it's a large tank, it will change slower than a smaller tank.

120mm computer fans on ebay, wired into a 12v power cord. as far as the power cord, lots of stuff run on 12v power, such as most internet modems, some cellphone chargers. it will have a transformer block for a a plug and it should tell you on there what the volts and amps are, when you buy the fans it should say what they need to run. you should be able to run a few fans on one powercord. total project should cost way under 50 dollars

One of the problems we run in to is when the tank warms up, the saturated O2 drops, in the tank. That is more of a problem than the actual temp, as long as the temp is within the normal physiological range of the animals. Dissolved Oxygen and Temperature

Good circulation is also a must. I run my tanks at higher temps 82 degrees. During the summer they sometimes reach 83 or 84 with no problems. Ac in the room keeps it pretty cool but when the power goes down it can reach high 80's in a few hours.

but just a simple clip on fan, or a pedalstal fan will do the job, just somethign to blow air under the lights to remove the heat away.

and also like said above make sure you have good water movement that can help a lot with heat as well.
