? temp cutoff or not, for the low tech/gadget reefers

For those of you low tech reefers. I'm sitting here wondering about heater high temp cut off. Cheap o variety. Basically a temp probe, high temp cut off point, with outlet. Any of you low tech/gadget use and swear by them or tried them and sworn off.

I will never have a tank without a heater controller. It's saved mine at least twice already. I use inkbird.

Ok do you use the base model inkbird or the wifi connected model? How often do the alarms go off when there is no real problem?

I use a basic inkbird, it never goes off unless there is a heater malfunction or the probe gets taken out of water. Been running it for at least 7 years at this point

My inkbird has never went off. Been running 4 years straight with no issues. I got the double heat inkbird. Incase of extreme emergancy it will run both heaters. No issues for the price.

I don't have the wifi one. The alarm never goes off unless there's an actual issue.

One i linked is a heating and cooling one. Unless you need both functions just go with the double heating ports

I used a Dynasense controller for heat (and cooling). IMO, a controller is good insurance against device malfunctions, which with heaters is quite common. I set the controller temp just a bit BELOW the temp the heaters would shut off at, so the controller did the control and the heater internal control was the failsafe.

Same, Inkbird on three tanks. Alarm has gone off once in 2 years when heater malfunctioned.

Good to hear assurance from you all. Had ordered it was second guessing decision. So it’s now in place set at 77 deg with 3 degree variance.

Well I can’t get sockets to turn on I’ve saved settings and neither socket is on may have to send back and try another unless I’m missing the obvious.
