Testing Phyto for fertilizer

Does anyone know how or if it's possible to test Phyto I purchase to make sure there is no residual fertilizer in it? Reason I ask is I have been dosing it quite a while without issue until recently. Tank was clean and more or less algae free. I have a new algae outbreak recently. No new corals, no new rock. Some new snails and a feather duster. Snails seemed pretty clean on intro. I did not write down when the new batch of phyto was started after previous ran out. Just trying to eliminate a possible variable as I try to figure this out. I am of course checking my source water for change also. No new food being used.

What phyto are you using? Are you culturing it yourself?

For reference, the only way to test if fertilizer is left is using saltwater nitrate test strips. This has a great write up on the whole thing.

The reason I asked if you were culturing it yourself is because if you are buying it, it could just be dead phyto. Depends on what you are using, even if you buy live phyto from one of the big culturing companies, it will die at which point it won't help with lowering nutrients.
