Unfortunately it can go on for a long time. Mine were like that for 8 months and no babies!Thank you for the info on the worms. I spent a lot of time diving down internet holes and couldn’t find out exactly what they were.
About the clowns... one is definitely larger so I’m assuming she’s the female. She has had the small male against this rock all day and he looks exhausted. I’m a wreck. . I’ve looked for eggs (see none) and looked to see if a white tube is protruding from either (none). How long can this go on?

As for the number of fish for a 30 gallon tank...it’s depends on the size of the fish, however, I wouldn’t go with more than 4-5, the size of a Clownfish. The white spirals are Spirorbid Worms and are completely harmless and good for reef tanks. They are filter feeders that catch small plankton and particles of food. Are your Clowns a true pair? Are they the same size? All Clownfish are Males, then the dominant one turns into a Female and gets much larger than the male.
