Hi Roger, just a quick thanks for the excellent service in sending out a new controller to me.

Kicking myself as I really should've done a bit more investigating as it turns out all I needed was a new rotary knob. I should've known Tunze would design a repairable knob. Ah well, nice to have an extra controller board and you'll likely be seeing an order for rotary knobs soon.

By the way I love this Tunze Silence 1073.050 pump. It's been running for almost 6 years now. Surprised I don't hear about them more. Small size, great price point and of course...Tunze!

Yes, the knobs are actually a sacrificial part, one way these can be destroyed is forcing the knob to turn too far, for example I have seen pinpoint pH meters destroyed that way, someone cannot calibrate it because the probe is bad and since you use a screwdriver you can exert force to try to turn the potentiometer more and then the controller is ruined. Likewise a hard impact could break the board, so instead they just sheer off.

That's actually brilliant! That kind of design would've saved me a couple long nights removing and soldering in broken pots in my Navy days. Never occurred to me to have a sacrificial knob. Sailor proof design by building in failure.

Eh, people hated it, the new models of controller just use momentary switches and IC's. A problem we see is over time they get stiff, if you haven't moved it in months, between salt and the potentiometer getting stiff, they can just snap off even though there was no risk to the board.
