Why did they design the fan to be on the bottom. Heat rises that is why heatsinks have the fins on the top seems counter productive. If anything it is cooling the tank more as it is sucking air around the surface of the tank and evaporating water. Also why suck humid salt water air into a fixture.

Anyone with LEDs knows you actually need to run a heater not cool a tank down

I think it's precisely because heat rises that it makes more sense to suck in air from the bottom. Sucking in air from the top is sucking in the hottest air around the unit. They assured me that the components are protected from humidity, but there is still the concern about the bearings on the fan (which is replaceable). But Ecotech believes any way you position the fan, it's going to suck in humid, saltwater air.

Its nice but no optices for deep tanks to many reds not good and 5w for the XP-Gs thats not good . Doesnt look upgradable ether. The new maxspect is way better then this by far in my oppinion.

To many reds will cause algae growth I learned this the hard way . 5w is over driving the xpgs that not good because now the life span of the bulb is cut in half. As for upgrading I dont mean software I mean led replacment made easy and led upgrades in the fixture.

Too much phosphate and nitrate causes algae growth :) The good thing about this light is that you can customize the amount of each color. Too much red? No problem, just turn it down some.

The XP-Gs are rated for 50,000 hours at 1.5A. 8 XP-G LEDs driven at 5 watts each (assuming 110V) is only 0.36A, which is MUCH lower than most people run theirs.

The modular LED cluster would leave me to believe that they are easily replaced/upgraded.

Do you know if the Apex will support it? I may have missed that part.

Red spectrum promotes algae growth no matter how low your trates and phosphates. You can dim the leds but that doesn't change the spectrum.

I'm very tempted to sell my AI fixtures and try those Radions.

Very interesting. I had heard they were coming out and personally, I feel $750 a pop is a little steep. now if one were compared to a single 250 watt halide fixture, that may be a little bit easier to swallow. but still. that savings in electricity and bulb replacement would be a LONG way coming.

I've got some feedback from the guy who's tank is pictured in the artice. He's a guy I know in Houston, TX named Dennis. He goes by d2mini on other forums. He's been testing those light for the past 4-5 months now. He seems to have nothing but good things to say about them, although they are a bit expensive.

I've run with a bit of red and have had no issues. If you do, you can always dim them 100%. IMO, it's better to have the option than not.

I think you will need to wait for a module to run it with an apex.

I think that it will work with the WXM module that's already being used with the Vortechs.
