Couple of pics of my sea apple.
Feeding well on daily phyto & the mulm from my zeolite reactor.
Fascinating watching these strange creatures feed.
It's become an instant talking point despite my concerns regarding the infamous reputation they seem to have.
Long term, I may setup a separate nano for this & some other interesting fan feeders just to be prudent.

Definitely the weirdest thing in my tank

They are beautiful and fun to watch. I would suggest always having enough mixed saltwater on hand to do a 100% water change if it decides to pull the pin one day. It happened to us. I dont know if anybody has carefully studied them well enough to recognize the warning signs, but most people dont get a warning. If caught early enough a full water change can save some or all or your fish.

That's good advice.
I shall mix up a drum over the weekend.
Yes, it's the uncertainty that is the concern.
How was the effect on corals?
Equally catastrophic?

I didnt have corals at the time.
I almost always have 45 gallons ready. Our tank at the time was a 110 so i just left the level low until the salt could disolve fully in another batch so it wouldnt burn the fishes gills and kill them that way.

My LFS owmer is a fan of weird critters.
He's a bit disillusioned with the "hype" aspect of todays hobby e.g high end, super expensive named torches etc & favours lots of soft corals, old school SPS & cucumbers/starfish.
He had this one in his redsea display & for £70 I couldn't say no despite knowing it was a risky purchase

one of my favorite inverts! how long have you owned it? IME they are about as safe to keep as a tigertail as long as you keep it away from nippy fish and powerheads. i know a few people who have kept them for years and counting.

6 days.
He hasn't really moved beyond some minor repositioning & quickly attached to rock.
I have sicce powerheads with relatively small spines to covers so he can't get in there.
He does appear to be feeding 24/7 as opposed to purely at night but I do glug the phyto in daily as the system can handle quite heavy additions

any updates on the big fella?
Still going strong!
I had one slightly odd incident where he swelled up like a water balloon and bobbed around the tank.my fear was he would puncture himself on rock or SPS & nuke the tank.
I ended up cradling him very gently next to rock until he deflated & reattached.
My wife watched the whole episode with a mix of concern for my mental wellbeing & amusement.
She finds reefers & our sea creatures a little eccentric at the best of times!
Since then he’s frequently repositioned himself at different levels on the rock but his tents are out everyday & he seems happy with the mulm from my zeovit reactor.i feed pyto when i have it to hand so probably two weeks of the month.
Really cool little guy & fascinating to watch their never ending quest to feed!

I need to read up on these creatures. I have a 8g nano I haven't set up yet because i don't know what I want to put on it. I already have plenty of fish and coral with 4 running ranks so I'm looking for something a bit more unique.
One of these could be perfect.
I lost all of my maxima clams very suddenly over Christmas which was pretty heartbreaking & this little guy pulled me out of one of those rare “I think I’m done with the hobby” periods after that.
So much character.
If a sea apple can have a character that is 🤣🤣

I love the oddities too. Ive had mine since October 2024. Its walked around a couple of times. Did the inflation thing it looked like a football. I nudged it into a nook it deflated and has hung out since. Call it cheeto the orange "fingers" it always seems to be licking off🤣 Dollabella is another fun grenade I had for 10 months. Recently picked up my second.

It is an interesting critter for sure. Added this one a few days ago along with a sea squirt. I have phyto on a doser adding some every hour so hopefully I'll be able to keep them healthy.
It crawled around a lot before finally attaching to a rock and I was able to move it front and center.

Mine has been deflating for a few hours then puffing back up and extending tentacles like normal. Not detaching and moving. Its been doing this maybe once a day. Just wondering if your does this?

Mine will change slightly throughout the day. Far as inflation goes. The coloration looks a little different on yours. Color changes in the marine world always seem to indicate stress or happiness. Mine always seems to get really dark in the top side with coloration between the orange lines more of a pale color. When feeding it opens up really wide similar to ops initial picture. While it methodically sucks whatever its collected off. One at a time. Occasionally Ill spot feed it and it'll open its mouth wide and just suck everything in it seems.
