Ordered an Aquacultured Ultra Maxima clam from a vendor. Now mind you I have had small clams in the past, but dang. This clam is so small I threw it away thinking is was a piece of rubble, caught myself and dug it back out of the trash.

Stuck the clam up in the zoanthid garden and figured naw it's never going to make it. The clam looked bad the next day, gabbing and withdrawn. This little guy moved around a lot and is now open and looking like it's a little happier.

Could have put this post in the Giant Clam forum but I decided to share my tank as well (kill two corals with one stone).

It's a JBJ 45 RL, Hydra AI 52 lighting, Mp10, Tunze 9001 skimmer, Smart ATO, Tunze Turnbell.

Manually dose Little Fishes 2 parts, Kent mag, Lugols Iodine. Low concentration Kalk in ATO.

It took me some time to get back to keeping sps, I was being chemistry stupid. Now everything is growing, coloring up.

Not to going to directly feed the The Littlest Clam. I feel that it would cause more stress to move the clam and I do not need any cyano or algae outbreaks from adding more nutrients to the tank.

You went all out!!!!!!

I do not think I will ever add a sump to this tank, just a dosing pump, T5HO supplements.

Some day I will get an adult tank with an over flow and sump, probably some day in the future for frags. Been an AIO girl for about a decade.

I know right! ;Shifty

It moved under the Sunny D's almost completely covered by the polyps and then moved back out and next to the blue palys, where the little guy seems happy.

If it last the next 2 weeks I may pick up some other ones, they look really awesome mixed in with palys and zoanthids. (I will just ignore how much my calcium utilization will increase for now).

Thanks for the compliment. ;)

A hippo clam! I don't know why but I absolutely love those guys. How long have you had it?

Yeah they are under appreciated for sure.

About 1 yr and half.

They are probably the hardiest clam I have kept. He got so covered in a fast growing cyano once I thought I was going to lose it, so I pulled it and rinsed the clam under temperate fresh water and returned it to the tank, 6 hours later the clam was back to normal.

It's cute.

But isn't small clam have high mortality rate even in the wild? Best luck with it.

Oh most definitely, I expected a clam around 1.5 inches, not 3/4 inch. It's hit and miss and mostly miss with clams this size but I am not going to stress it, the clam seems to be improving each day so well see. Placement appears approved based on the clams amount of recent movement and expansion.

I believe I would have called and let them "get to know me a bit better". o_O
Still stinkin cute though.

This is the little clam I've ever owned. Keep in mind the macro shot makes you think it is big, but once you get to the third image in this link, you'll realize just how tiny it is. I've had it for years. http://www.melevsreef.com/node/1723

Pretty much looks the exact same, I checked on it last night in fact. I'll have to bust out the good lens to get a shot of it since it's itty bitty. So small, it's challenging to see if it is alive or not. Pretty sure I was able to make out the mantle though. o_O

Did the Hippos remain in the same spot? Very cool thanks for sharing.

Exactly one month to the day since I acquired this piece, what a difference. Non-fad named Milleopora showing a lot of potential.
