Many of you know I go to Indonesia every month or two to visit local coral farms and hand-pick corals, anemones, fish, and inverts. I've been doing this for several years and each time try to find a different mix of unique specimens. I'm heading out again in a couple days so one of my suppliers is teasing me with some pics of availabe stock I can pick from.

They have sent me pics of lots of cool corals and also said they recieved some unique anemones. I'm usually very cautious about buying anemones because they tend to stress easily and ship poorly. However, I couldn't resist sharing a few pics of some anemones I'll be looking at in a couple of days. Since they sent me these pics last week I've been driving them crazy asking twice a day how they are doing. So far the fancy ones are doing well.

There appears to be a mix of carpets, pizza, and some strange rainbow anemones.

These next few I not sure of ID. This one is nice, but a bit gaping in this pic, they say its tighter closed mouth now- a few days since pic taken.

I thought at first they may be fire anemones. However, they have handled them and they do not have any sting and to me they have an overall organized shape similar to a carpet anemone and not at all like any of the fire anemones we had, which tend to have a more disorganized odd shape and hide the mouth well. Julian Sprung has reviewed the pics and thought they look similar to Cryptodendrum or Thalassinthus and said he saw similar anemones while snorkling in Thialand. So, we'll see how they look when I get there. Whatever they are, they are certainly unique and if they look healthy for sure I'll bring them back.

I'll keep updating this thread throughout my adventure, so feel free to follow along.

So many cool corals to look at when I do these trips and I get to select a few. I'll be going to two exporters this time and checking out thousands and thousands of corals , plus tons of fish, anemones, and inverts. I've been in this hobby since 1965 and in business since 2000, but I'm not so jaded, I still say wow. Like about this crazy Oxypora:

Dr. Mac,
When do arrive in Indonesia and how long will you be staying?

Freddie

I'll be on the ground there less than 48 hours this trip, over the weekend. At other times I've been there as long as a week. Takes a couple days to get there :(

the nems could be actinodendron plumosum - touch them and you'll find out pretty quickly (don't actually do that)
