Ok here's all 21 wrasse in my wrasse tank except my Choati who is sleeping for some reason.

Man I have got some serious wrasse envy going on right now!!!!! :eek:

I have got to get my hands on a few of those beauties! Speaking of which, my LFS is bringing in a Potter's Leopard tomorrow. I already told the owner that I wanted to take first looks at it. They typically QT all new fish for 2wks, but I know I have read that with leopards that can be a bad thing. Better to get them in and eating right away. Leopard's are a species that I have no experience with and really want to give it a go. What are your thoughts leopard aficionados? QT or NO?

Anybody with experience with Cirrholabrus Katoi? I'd like to add one but am concerned that they may need cooler temps for long term health.

No one has any real experience yet; it was less than 2 months ago they were discovered in the north Philippians (and not endemic to Japan). And as such, I wouldn't worry about temps.

I have one in QT.

I've been having my potters for close to a year now and I have a powder blue tang so I qaurantine everything before it hits my main tank. I've also qaurantined a scotts wrasse and have a black leopard and jeweled wrasse in qaurantine right now. I normally start them off in water with no meds or copper then make sure they're eating good and healthy for a week or so before slowly starting meds

Ummm, nice! I read that they live below 100' in the Philippines, where temps are cooler. That's why I was hesitant. Please share a pic when you can.

What is your QT protocol for wrasses? I have an earlie coming tomorrow and was debating whether to TTM or just observe with two rounds of Prazi. My last one made it through observation QT (no Prazi or TTM) and ate fairly well, but wasted away in a few months in the DT. Very odd and I'd like to avoid that this time.

I don't take QT pics; superstitious. Once in the DT, sure. :)

I QT for at least 6 weeks and do at least 2 rounds of prazi. Nothing else unless something arises, and I never use copper.

Yeah, I know about the earlie, maybe that's why I lost the last one, he was too hot! Lol!
I know many of the rarer fish we keep are from deeper water and some adjust better than others to our tank temps, that's what prompted the initial inquiry. I guess you will be an early data point. I may join you, it's a beautiful fish. I'm tempted to go with a rosefascia instead or as well, but I'm going to have to do something with my dominant johnsoni, he's become a holy terror.

I am probably the only one here that does not QT wrasses at the moment. I will though when I combine my two reef tanks in to one 10' tank in the next 2-3 years, however.

Let them take on the risk, get the fish eating, etc. they're not particularly susceptible to standard parasites like ich but internal parasites are almost guaranteed and all of them should be treated with prazi pro one way or another.

To add to this, I've only had mine a couple weeks but he is thriving and doing well in 79 degree temps. No real aggression issues, difficulty feeding, or anything else to speak of as of yet.

Add a few wrasse at a time, johnsoni are generally not very aggressive I think you'll be fine. Mine is by far re most timid wrasse I have (and I have 26)

Katoi should be able to handle a johnsoni, no problem. If you add a roseafascia, he may cause trouble in the future, they get pretty large.

I strongly recommend using prazi on new wrasses.

My katoi had been pretty aggressive when it comes to food, but not mean towards the two smaller wrasse in my QT (tiny attenuatus and 2" cf. lanceolatus). I've had him for 2 weeks now at 78° controlled. Curious who will be the dominant between him and my rhomboid and rubrisqamis...both of which are equally dominant.

More wrasses in the genus may help but this individual johnsoni is very agressive. I have two johnsoni, they were a pair but the female is now a male waiting his turn to be boss. I also have a lunatus and a cf. lanceolatus. The pintail at 4.5" and very fat is by the largest, the johnsoni is a bit shorter and thinner. Up to a month ago the pintail was the boss. Then one day the big johnsoni decided to take over the neighborhood and beat up the pintail who is now hiding most of the day. Increasing the number of targets might help, but I since I have two, rehoming boss johnsoni is probably the safer move.

I've read conflicting accounts on the aggression of rosefascia but understand they can be agressive. The Katoi? Who knows, right? Not enough experience out there yet. Size is definitely the main factor and I like to buy females or young males. Until this johnsoni is out, it will take a real bruiser with an attitude to take over his spot.

I agree about the Prazi and generally do use it. I give the new earlie a couple of sessions with it in QT.
