Wrasse friends who have anampses... how did you train your anampses to take pellets? Mine always observes the food before eating it and never touches pellets but always goes for frozen mysis...

Any secret methods? Or are some fish never going to take on pellets?

My China wrasse is one of the easier of the Anamses species wrasse. I feed my pair initially whatever they will eat, but then I mixed other food with it, Seeing other fish in the tank eat various food, and if they are healthy and comfortable, will start to try other food. That is how I got my China wrasse pair to eat essentially everything.

So quick question guys so I have a wrasse heavy tank and was thinking of adding a leopard wrasse and was wandering y’all’s thoughts on compatibility (haven’t added a wrasse in over a year so everyone is established)
current stock list
Hawaii flame fairy wrasse
Lineatus fairy
Golden rhomboidalis fairy
Lunate fairy wrasse
Potters Leopard Wrasse

purple tang
sand Sifting goby

my main question is how do potters leopard and leopards usually interact in a tank and would it be prudent to add two at once to decrease stress on one single leopard.. (I had thought about adding two anyway) wrasses are currently at LFS in (hubblefish certified QT) and will adding two females encourage one to transition to male Faster?
Thanks here is a pic of my for attention purposes ha

You never know but my Potter's was pretty bossy...even with Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus wrasses. I would use an acclimation box and be prepared to intervene if it get's picked on.

Yep thanks forgot to mention that leopard would be in an acclimation box for a minimal of 72 hrs! I was amazed at how big a difference it makes.. I now put any new fish in an acclimation box for a couple days wrasse or not ha

Was sold to me as a female yellowband wrasse (luteovittatus) but wasn't quite sure. Anyone able to verify?

I currently have a bonded pair (male 5" & female 3") of Melanurus Wrasses in my 125 along with a 6-line (1") and cleaner wrasse (4") and everyone is getting along great. A local reefer (who I got the female melanurus from) is offering me a Male Ornate Leopard (3") and I'm trying to decide if I should take it. The Leopard is eating everything (frozen, pellet, flake) - he has had it for over a year but he recently downsized tank and the Male is harassing the females to the point that they are just staying put in the sand bed non-stop. He has the male caught in an acclimation box.

Thoughts on adding this guy to my wrasse haven.

@Trouble1375 Between those you should have no issues though I have found most wrasses tend to harass new guys for a day or to if possible I would put in an acclimation box in your tank for a couple days to let everyone get used to him and you should be fine..

Thank you very much. The plan was an acclimation box to start. When we introduced the female Mel the male was a bit overzealous and scared her into the sand bed for 47 days. We thought she was dead.

Yeah melanarus can be butt heads i rehomed a large male at one point because he would harass all the new wrasse additions.. I finally started putting a mirror on the tank for several days when adding new fish to draw their attention.. and the real sensitive ones I would catch the melanarus and keep him in the sump for several days while everyone got adjusted

My LFS has this wrasse in stock and is selling it as a juvenile “blue filament flasher wrasse”. Can anyone ID it with a scientific name? I’d like to read more about it and see if it’d be a good fit for my 46 gallon bowfront tank. A804DE52-89DB-44AE-AC40-3B9ED0F04023.jpeg

I see several folks here are keeping six line wrasses with others. I have two tanks that I am consolidating down into one. I will be adding a small six line into my other aquarium with a slightly larger melanarus wrasse. Will adding the six line be an issue do you think? He is currently housed in a 40 cube with just a red hawkfish, and there has been no aggression issues as of yet.
I have a 6 line with a red hawk fish and they’re fine together too. But when I added fairy wrasse the 6 line bullied it terribly. It’s possible they can move together as some people here have done it but most don’t got well. Maybe best option is to move the 6 line in last but I would just be ready for fighting. It’s a shame. Nobody tells you the 6 line is such an a$& when you get them.

I would confirm it’s a Flasher, so in the Paracheilinus family which all have about the same requirements and traits.

My guess based on coloring and fin shape is Paracheilinus Angulatus but you need someone better at identifying juveniles than me. He is stressed and may have some fin damage.
