The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

So wrasses are by far my favorite fish have owned many over the 12 years I’ve been in the hobby! I will say that in the last 5 years nice wrasses have become a lot harder to get and more expensive!! And one down side is they have a relatively short life span!

Here are a few I’ve had Over the years I’ve owned
1. Melanurus wrasse
2. 2 pintail fairy wrasses
3. carpenters flasher wrasse
4. Leopard wrasse I’ve had 2 neither ever transitioned over 3 years each
5. Blue star leopard wrasse (potters wrasse killed it)
6. Potters Leopard wrasse
7. Flame Fairy wrasse( my overall favorite)
8. Male Lineatus fairy Wrasse
9. Rhomboid wrasse
10. Lunate Fairy wrasse
11. 6 line wrasse
12. 2 eight line flasher wrasses both I found crispy after finding a tiny gap in my top
13. Blue throat flasher wrasse

All of these have passed on and just recently upgraded my reefer 350 after a split seam upgrades to Eshopps m130 just added 5 bimac anthias and waiting on 8 line flasher wrasses and dusky margined wrasse to finish up qt at dr reefs!!

That was an Ora German blue digitatta it grew like crazy in that tank! That was back in 2020 though ha just getting g this tank rolling well! And finally caught a 6 line which I needed to do before adding any more wrasses! It killed the only other wrasse I had in the tank the blue throat wrasse about twice its size

This is great info, thanks!

I have a new (~6 months) mixed reef, 125g, so far with two ocellaris, a red firefish, and engineer goby. I'm taking my time with stocking. The only wrasses on my list so far are melanurus and a McCosker's flasher. Other planned additions are a copperband, 6 lyretail anthias, royal gramma, tomini tang (maybe), longnose hawkfish, and possibly a blue throat trigger.

I've always liked the look of Thalassoma wrasses (pinkface and bluehead especially) but I think they may be too boisterous for my current tank. I have often thought of running a fowlr for all the butterflies, angels, and wrasses I'd be unwilling to risk in my reef tank - harlequin tusk at the top of the list! But the pinkface is such a beautiful species.
I was reminiscing about my old tank and found this unlisted clip from my YT:
This might give you a bit of context i guess for how Thalassoma behave with other wrasses most of the time. There's three thalassoma in the DT in that video (the pinkface i had was in the sump at that time), the 6" T. nigrofasciatum, the 5" T. lutescens and the female bird. This was towards the end of the span of my tank and i had about 15 wrasses in total at this point, and with the pinkface in the sump and the very murderous P. guentherii in the acrylic prison, i seem to recall that this combo worked well and there were no issues with aggression.
