The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

I have 2 female and 1 male bipartitus wrasse... Assuming I am OK to add a Pink Margin and Red Lined Wrasse? 180 gallon tank. Can a knowledgable thread-viewer confirm?

Yes, those will be fine.

I will be picking up my magma wrasse tomorrow. Pretty excited about it.

Also scored a brand new monsoon wrasse female at macna as well. She is in the acclimation box eating viraciously
Very nice scores! Be sure to post up some photos. ;)

I really need to get a better camera. I'm not sure how some of you guys/gals pull off some of the fish shots I see on here. Here are a couple on the lineatus and one of the rubriventralis after several attempts.

Thought I'd share a vid of my tank - with a sunbeam striking the side glass, the wrasses seem to change color as they glide in and out of it. I wish I could capture the intricate patterns and brilliant shimmer of their colors better, but this isn't that camera!

Wrasses in the tank: Orange-back (Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis), Solor (C. solorensis), Exquisite (C. exquisitus) and young Pintail (C. isosceles) fairy wrasses and a Linespot (Paracheilinus lineopunctatus) flasher.

So apparently Blue Zoo took my magma, so I was left with the sub adult. I was pretty peeved about that, especially since the wrasse was ordered specifically for me and BZ took the nicer one of my order. I got a juvenile, which I still pretty nice, but not the one I was ordered. My wholesaler account manager was a little bothered about it as well

The lineatus is stunning, esp for a sub male. I need to keep my eyes open for one next.
Thanks man, it's a gorgeous fish. First one I've seen in person. The top of the dorsal has a bright orange hue to in under an certain spectrum of the actinics. My camera is not capable of capturing it. I could only imagine a super male.

Looking good @Maritimer. Nothing like natural sunlight to bring color out of fish. @d-man, you still have a gem. I would have been a little ill as well. Foe the price BZ is asking it better be a nice one!

Curse them! That was MY fish. It wouldn't even have been at the wholesalers on Monday if it weren't for me having them ordered. Ugh. Guess I'll just have to wait for mine to transition to full male

Does anyone else's leopard wrasse let you pet her? Mine doesn't swim away when my hand gets near and she'd let me touch her
I haven't experienced that from a leopard, but I have with some Cirrhilabrus in the past.

The lineatus came in late today. Just got him/her(?)
Young male.

Hunter and TJ, do you guys know anything about this wrasse? Where it was collected, what is it related to, is it really a new species?

It's a new species in the flame wrasse complex,as Bruce mentioned. It is found in the Philippines. It was collected a few weeks ago for the first time, but based on price, doesn't appear to be uber rare. It was referred to as cherry wrasse, but it seems the distributors are going with the name magma wrasse.
Yeah, I don't have much more to add here. There's a small debate if it is actually in the jordani complex or not (there's no doubt in my mind that it is), as there are some features with are a bit closer to bathyphilus.
Not really all that relavent, but I had a wholesaler messaging me with pictures the day they popped up asking "what is this?" prior to all the news breaking about them. :P

Blue Zoo has one also and are asking $799.
Pffft, lol. Early bird gets the gouge, I guess.

Yes, that shouldn't be an issue. Always use an acclimation box though, just in case.
