Is there a way to figure out what the next hot zoa will be? For example, stratospheres are going for $100 pp in some places but are starting to decrease in price in some locations. How do you figure out what the next hot zoa will be? The zoas I have I keep because I like the color and any profit from them is a bonus.

Tough to say. I dont get the hype. I bought two utter chaos polyps a year ago for like $20 per polyp. I have like 150 now and dont know what to do with them. Zoas are like crab grass, they grow and survive in almost anything. Hopefully they grow and get fragged off to deflate the market.

as far as the next hot zoa its very hard to gauge because often times zoas already in the market don't pop up in price and the new hot zoa is typically a fresh import or a new unnamed strain, if your looking for hard to find zoas already in the market then dayglo volcanos remain pretty elusive and have actually been seemingly disappearing from the market altogether, making my personal hunt for them even harder 😖

yeah zoas are definitely an interesting market, starts used to sell for well over 1k but met their fall as all "high end" zoas due, even zoas with the old strat reputation of melting for absolutely no reason always grow hardier as they are propagated more and more which leads to their decline, over time every high end zoa you see will come down to lower prices excluding the rare cases of a zoa morph leaving the market entirely

Im sure there are a lot of people who are wondering the same thing but for me I have no interest on what the next big zoa will be. I like anything that has some nice color to it

It's hard for me to keep up with the "next hot corals." I just buy whatever looks neat, haha

Im after Ktar black hornet and OG krakatoas myself. If you ever find them drop me a line. Its crazy how the midline common zoas of the past are rare to unobtanium now. I swear we are worse than mother nature.

That's the trick isn't? Buy coral you enjoy and if maybe you can sell it.
Yup don’t chase expensive names because they’ll always fall, just buy what you find to be nice

If your last sentence is true, then the point of this thread and your first sentence shouldnt matter to you lol.

I know a guy who used to have a massive colony of ktar black hornets, he grows Zoas for local vendors so he might still have some, I’ll definitely ask today if he has some and let you know

That was me before covid. Lol.
I sold all my flaming mohicans, ktar black hornets and OG kmaintl jawbreakers to different local vendors. Doubt they still have them.

he still has a couple other old strains of Zoas and palys hopefully the Ktar black hornets are one of them

A lot of it comes down to what new color combo people find from either breeding or wild and then how stable it is. I.e. Great owls started very high when they were new but grew like rastas so the price pp dropped very fast, but then on the flip dayglo volcanoes are growing very slow and are melty so stay high cost

The gamble is getting color combos that people like and getting them so they don't melt. Here's the part that I see as the problem, if the zoas are fragile and melt, you're out big money. That doesn't seem like a fun game to me.

Here's an idea. Create combos of zoas on rocks and trade and sell those. It's next to impossible to find the next hot thing, but if you create combos of different zoas that people may find interesting, it'd be like you're creating art of coral. A LFS near me sells combinations of zoas at auctions on the weekend.

Not really zoa related as I really don’t collect them. I have a few but only purchased cheap ones for a zoa garden area. Coral pricing in general is strange. I moved and didn’t have a tank for nearly a year recently. I was floored that things like Rhodactis shrooms, Duncan’s, candy canes and trumpet corals. Things you couldn’t give away are now kinda pricey. And hammer corals are nearly half the price they were about 18 months ago. I don’t get it.
