The zoa market

Here's a concept I came up with yesterday. I was thinking about making tiles with grooves in it to grow different types of zoas in. It would sort of be like a chia pet for zoas or a bonsai tree where you grow zoas in a maze. Do you think it could sell?

There’s never a way to figure out the next high end but only when something different comes in and gets named and marketed. Some melt and others are sustained to aquarium life.

Name of the game is either buy in at top price or wait till they drop after a year or more. Money can be made either way. I remember buying 3 polyps of Strats for $2300 and that was a hook up best friend price. Did I sell many Strats for over $1k back in the day, absolutely but now getting more than $65 a polyp is pulling teeth. They don’t grow slow but not fast.

All Zoas have different growth speeds, some you may get 5-10 polyps a month and others you may get 3 polyps in a year.

The ones like flaming Mohican, Oscar the grouch, emperor v2, golden leopards, dayglo volcano have stayed rare and expensive because they grow very slow and are finicky for a number of reasons.

Ktar black hornets are still around just have to find someone who likes the old strains. I have them personally and they grow pretty good. Probably another coral that I’ve kept in the hobby due to my propagation efforts along with Solar circus.

definitely, the only thing to watch out for is putting fast growers with slow growers and avoiding zoas that a have melting tendencies
