Therapy dog introduction

Hi All -

Just thought I would post a thread about volunteer work we do. My dog Tucson (Welsh Springer Spaniel), is a certified therapy dog who (pre COVID) would visit patients at the local hospital and cancer center every week. Unfortunately, during the COVID crisis volunteers (and all visitors) are not allow in the hospital and other extended care facilities. Last year he was filmed by the local NBC affiliate doing his rounds at the hospital. In his "spare time" he performed in the regional theater production of "Shakespeare in Love" as the dog Spot. We endeavor to keep him social so he joins us for lunch and dinners at restaurants where he is ENTHUSIASTICALLY received. Lots of kind, warm people who respond to a dog. During these trying times he kind of takes the edge off of things. He certainly makes my day. Would love to hear your pet (dog/cat) companion stories. They bring out the best in us.

My dog Buddy, a Silky Terrior, 13 years old and always happy to see me, even when I have been gone for just an hour. Carries his little tennis ball around everywhere and still wants to play as much as when he was a pup. He tries to make friends with everybody, I know he is a good therapy dog for me.

Beautiful dog! I am a nurse and the staff and patients very much miss the therapy dogs coming to visit. I am sure they miss doing their work too!


This is my dog Zyggy and his cats! He is a collie/shephard mix and does dock diving and agility :)

For many years before he passed away, we would bring our kitty Toby to visit people at a nursing home near our house around the holidays. He was the sweetest little soul and would sit on anybody’s lap as long as they would let him.
He would always bring such big smiles to the residents faces.
He wasn’t an official therapy animal but he loved going “to work”, even in his Santa suit!
