Uh two months ago the area behind this acro was really thick with it. Now it's mostly gone.

Though the deresa is open really far the two new tiny maximas are not. I was thinking about moving them lower but they are firmly attached. Hopefully it's not too much and they just need to acclimate.

They do open slightly more then this (I scared them when taking the photos) but not much more

You know, we hardly understand coral.

@Nate Chalk has very healthy acros who are consuming all the calcium they can to kill the montipora.

So, someone else is definitely starving out the turf algae.

Isn't that the truth! I was just thinking about this the other day after looking into acropora spawning. The way the egg is developed within a tube and releases out the polyp.. then I found this piece of old skeleton, you can virtually see the tunnels. Then I wonder, if each individual polyp is it's own creature, how different are they from the dreaded boring worms.. besides creating their own foundation(vs boring into existing) with fancy colors... if humans are only a couple chromosomes away from chimps; how close is the coral from parasite? :thinking-face:

Gull crabs, feather dusters, fish can live in the coral in harmony. The ocean has a mass supply of minerals and foods we cannot supply without polluting our tanks.

In closed systems. Things have a tendancy to lock things in place while starving others out. It's an odd world we hardly understand.

That seems to be consensus from most people I've spoken to about it.

They are only worth keeping if you have the money to burn, the curiosity to study up beforehand, and the patience of a saint. There's very few people that are truly willing to dedicate the time and resources to a singular thing in a whole world of varied reef tanks.
