Of course look into your ALK, but do not jump to that as a conclusion just because you do not have a test kit.

I cannot remember the last time I checked my ALK (mid 2008, maybe)... ALK is all about stability as opposed to a certain level. I've seen superb reefs that have ALK as low as 6.5 dKH, and high as 14 dKH, but the level remains stable.

Have you double checked your salinity reading (with another device)? Have you calibrated refractometer with solution? Have you double checked other values with another test kit? Has the weather changed dramatically in your area recently? How fast did the changes occur in your corals, overnight, or slowly over a couple weeks?
