That's a good question. Can you provide us with more information? Parameters, lighting, flow ect...
 
My hammer did that when I first put it in my tank. Sweeper-like tentacles got very long. I was really worried for a while, and even moved it around a bit to try and find the right amount of flow. I'm not sure I ever got that just right, but eventually the long stringy tentacles just went away...
 
It is the Frogspawn throwing out its sweeper tentacles. Nothing out of the ordinary. Most of the time this happens at night or under the cover of darkness. Every once in awhile it will happen during the day. Cool event to see!
