This looks odd for RTN or STN..

Hey all,

So the pattern of tissue missing from this coral doesn't seem right. I've always seen RTN and STN be fairly consistent, this looks like something. Does it look like a symptom of sort of pest you all have heard of ?

The little splotch is some algae I believe.

Is the little splotch green? It could be green boring algae. As for the STN did something sting it there? It looks kinda like a normal STN to me.

Thanks guys, I've just always seen more consistent STN I guess. It just seemed splotchy, like something was munching.

Definitely burnt tips. My alk has been north of 9.5 for a while. Not on purpose.

I have never seen RTN start in the middle of a branch.....has always started at the very bottom of the acro for me....and believe me, I have a pretty large sample size to draw from. Other than the location, it does appear to be normal looking RTN/STN though.

The tips are burnt. Probably whatever happened that burnt them is causing this STN as well - this stresses coral big-time. If you have fixed this, then I think that all that you can do is wait and see.
