Thoughts on Scooter Dragonets?

I was at my LFS yesterday, when I saw the cutest fish ever. It's a Scooter Dragonet, which I have never heard of before. I googled them, and apparently they're a difficult species. But people also say that about Red Mandarin Dragonets. And when I was in middle school, I had a Red Dragonet who took frozen just fine and was perfectly healthy and plump. Are Scooters any harder than Red Mandarins? I would be buying captive-bred from a different source, since I only buy captive-bred fish. Do most captive-bred Scooters take frozen?

No, if you do not see it eat frozen first & your tank is not large enough 40+ gallons at least (ideally with a sump or Fuge for pods) then I would advise against it. You may get lucky but it is likely to starve. The good news is they are not prone to disease either so if you fine one eating frozen you should be good. Just make sure you feed it enough since they do not have a stomach. Biota has captive bred Mandarins which do accept prepared foods & are bred to accept prepared foods. There is not a company that trains scooter blennies to eat prepared foods though. No matter which you decide on though it is vital that they get fed 3-4x a day.

If you have a large enough system that is mature you should be fine unless your tank has a lot of other pod eating fish.

I had it in160 gal mature tank, but even there it didn’t last verylong.
