thoughts on this?

What are your thoughts on this? they are morphing corals to grow in ways they don't naturally.. in this case, getting a fungia to encrust rather than live like a plate on a sand bed.. Reefgen’s Project X Fungia is an absolute showstopper

They are doing research into understanding the different growth patterns of the fungia corals. It is something that does not happen in the wild that we know of yet, but it could if given the right conditions. All of the images look small but I'd personally like to see what it looks like as a colony size piece. As long as they are not releasing these corals there is really no issue with it. Think of the "Hybrid" or mutt dogs out there that people treat as true breeds. We are getting to a point in the hobby where the knowledge is there and the desire to learn and try new things is huge.

Agreed.. and well put.. especially talking about how we want to experiment and learn more..

I just know these types of things are cause for good debate.. just like glo-fish and unnatural goldfish. Lol.

I don't think they are genetically altering it, just selective breeding, much in the same way roses are selectively bred for desired traits. If they release it back into the wild, I doubt it would survive more then a few generations and would selectively breed itself back to the way it evolved. So I have no problem with this.

This is interesting, but as said before, as long as its not released in to the wild I think we are ok.
