Sounds like you are doing things the right way with good level of caution. If you are concerned about infection, you could send off a eDNA test to Aquabiomics. Worth it if you are super concerned. I don't want anything getting into the display, so I'm sending off my fourth one for the QT that I have the flashing tilefish in right now.

I've been doing lots of thinking here, and do we think my new skunk tilefish would be better off paired up with another skunk? I've got a 75 gal, and I was planning to add a biota yellow tang as my last fish later on, but now I'm thinking if I should skip the tang entirely, and add another skunk instead. The second one would need to be introduced much later, though, as my current QT tank is full.

I have two purple tile fish. Their color is very striking with a blue hue at the top. They swim at the surface most of the day and then sleep in a cave together at night. It’s hard to snap a photo of them as they wiggle so much but here is one of them. They are very unique fish!

If it was me, I'd do the tang for some algae control. The reason why I wanted two flashing tilefish is that they are supposedly the most skittish of the tilefish and they communicate through their flashing.

That makes sense. I already have a starry blenny that's a complete pig, but the tang would be good to have too. Just trying to make my new skunk as happy as I can, it kinda stole my heart lol.

My starry blenny is a pig too and completely gave up trying to eat algae off the rocks. It will chomp nori on the clip or prepared foods. I've heard lawnmower blennies are better at cleaning the rocks.

Funny, I've had the opposite experience. It was mainly eating nori on the clip at first, but now prefers picking on the rocks and back wall (I don't scrape it), and ignores the clip. It also goes crazy for pretty much any food, frozen or dry, that I put in twice a day for other fish.

Are your tilefish this active at night? I've noticed my new skunk is out and about a lot when it's dark, riding the surface.
