I have an Oreni Tilefish that’s been doing well. When I feed frozen food he gets really excited and eats a lot. However even though the other fishes have no problem with pellets, he seem to ignore pellets completely.

I’m going to be out of town for several days and I’m wondering if people have pellets their tilefish would take to that I can try with an auto feeder?

It took me a long time to teach mine to eat dry foods. I had to try many different ones, including flakes and freeze dried foods. He'd also spit out any pellets until I started soaking them with Plank.

Here's a few dry foods he really likes:
Hikari Marine A pellets
TDO Chroma Boost Large pellets
Optimum or Vitalis marine flakes
Omega One freeze dried mysis

What was your experience with Avast Plank? Does it really help the tilefish to get interested in the pellets?
Plank all the way. If you're travelling soon, I'd try loading it up with freeze dried mysis, plankton, etc. instead of pellets, so you can be sure it eats something.

Try Easy Reef Marine pellets has very few fillers, new life spectrum, they have all kinds of pellets. Had a Paki Butterfly a while ago. I was never able to get him on pellets. But he did love mysis. Sadly I put him in a larger tank and at night he ended up jumping into the over flow. And he passed being he couldn’t move around much I guess. Was a sad day, the fish really loved seeing me with the pipette. Would get all excited.

I wish I could get my hands on Easy Reef. The only size I can find in Canada is too small. I also had to go to the US to buy TDO pellets and some other freeze dried foods.

As for New Life Spectrum pellets, my tilefish wouldn't even look at them. He didn't like Piscine PE or Nutramar Marine pellets either.

They do not. Perhaps I'll place an order to be delivered to my hotel next time I'm in the US again though... Worked with BRS last time 😆
