Tips on pairing maroon clowns

I ended up ordering a maroon from ORA. I spoke with them and they are going to get me the smallest one they can, they said it should for sure be under an inch. It’ll be here tomorrow. I’ll let everyone know how it goes.

And lots of people have had similar experience as this, myself included, but once you get a fussy female and see the ugly side of how it can be, you might see the advantages in an acclimation box.
It's just too easy to use one, and avoids war, damaged torn up clowns, possible death before you can even get a net in there to save male, especially as they usually dive into rockwork often hiding till they die or just finished off by female.
Maroons are probably most known for these types of issues more than any other clowns.
ORA came through and got me the cutest little 3/4” maroon. He is currently in an acclimation box right next to the anemones and female clown. So far I can’t tell that she has even noticed him, let alone shown any aggression. How long should I keep him in there before letting him out for some supervised interaction?

For our maroons I had to remove the female from her anemone and place her in the acclimation box with the Male. She was just to aggressive even after tolerating him in the acclimation box. After a couple hours they got along then I released the male then the female. All was good after that. I will say there was a bit of intervening in those few hours but as long as she wasn't biting I let them figure it out.
So I tried my method first (because I’m stubborn) and it didn’t work lol
Next I caught them both and put them in the acclimation box together for several hours. The male would submit whenever the female gave him “the look”, but they mainly seemed to ignore each other and stayed at opposite ends of the box.
I released them into the dt and as soon as the female got in her nem she got aggressive towards him. The problem is he’s too busy swimming away and won’t submit. I decided to put them both back in the acclimated box, maybe for several days to see how things go. I also moved it down in the tank so it’s right next to the nems. I’m hoping it will help if she gets used to him near her territory.
I can’t get a good picture of them in the box but I got a couple quick ones when they were in the tank.

If you do the acclimation box again, try releasing the male first and maybe he will take to the anemone then release the female. Aggressive behavior to the male is generally normal as long as she's not injuring him. Even after months of sharing an anemone, she would routinely kick him out in my wife's nano. The fact that the Male is alive says a lot IMO

I had my male in the sump for a month so she’d get used to his scent. It worked great for me.
I know it worked because when I got him I put him in the DT and she WAS NOT HAVING THAT.

I recently painred a lightning to a gold nugget they were both relatively small the lighting was eating better so she took off in size and dominance as well, I have paired 3 others in the past but not maroons and theirs a huge difference in then aggresion maroons are very violent compare to the other 3 I paired they were black ice and davinci the others. It also lasted longer i would say lots of nip fins but a acclimation box can help but let them square up a bit I think box or no box the male will get hurt, my gold nugget was getting pounded but he continue to chase to I just let them be although it seemed she was ready to kill him, he’s allowed to swing by the nem now but doesn’t stay too long she still feisty

Maroons aggression transfers to corals as well I believe my lighting was killing my torch coral I had place close to her home/nem she was bitting of all the tips or my torch

Great thread to read, I've had a Maroon for a couple of years now, it survived two long 800 mile moves with me, and has been settled into it's tank for a year now....and what did I just do? Purchased a smaller "blue" lightning maroon with two nems that it has hosted for a killer deal. I put my original maroon in an acclimation box while I acclimated my new life, and dropped them in my tank last night, lights off....I'm thinking of letting the little guy and nems get used to the tank for a day or so before I release my larger one....any tips on how long I should do this or, should I let my bigger one out to see what happens? I'll post pics later today!
How big is the new maroon? I had success putting them both in an acclimation box near the anemones for about two days. Then releasing them. Ideally, I would have released the male first, but the female jumped out when I was trying to catch him.

My maroon clown fish (jalapeno) is so aggressive she will not let me near her or her two bubble tips. I tried to get her a Male yellow strip maroon clown so she wouldn't be all by herself, but she wasent go to have it. She saw that new clown fish and literally did a be line and started to terrorize him. I had to remove the Male and take him back to the store. I was told to move the tank around so it was all new for her but I couldn't do that to her reef, so now she a loner all by herself with her two bubble tips. I'm in the process of setting up a reef just for her. Shes my queen on one of my reef's that's three years old now.

I wish I had read this thread a couple of years ago. I never could get my Maroon to pair ( but never even thought of a box duh!!) I tried twice and gave up. I then purchased a clarki that was bonded to a LTA. The two clowns ignored each other for a year then bam the clarki killed the Maroon (never saw it coming) I have tried once to get her a mate and of course she killed it. I might try one more time with a tiny one if I can find it and a box
