I recently started dosing Kalkwasser about 2 months ago and so far I love the stability and noticeable growth I’ve been seeing.

My question is where should I drip the kalkwasser into my system? I started off dosing it in my sump right before the baffle before a sponge filter, this seemed to be working well but it wasn’t a very high flow spot and the eye on my auto top off started to get covered by a film and stopped working for a few days without my noticing. I’ve since moved it to the area of my sump where the water drains into. This seemed to be working well at first but now my skimmer air intake seems to be getting a little clogged up as well. I could move it to the other side of the sump in a high flow area where my heater sits, but I’m concerned this would cause the heater to get caked up.

Any advise?

For information, my sump is one giant section with a baffle and then return chamber.

Thanks for any and all advice!

I’m dosing kalkwasser in the drain/intake section of my sump where my skimmer and heater are also at. I put a Marineland Maxi-Jet in this section also. Kalk, as well as alk, cal and mag are dosed where the Maxi-Jet shoots out water. This seems to work well because the Maxi-Jet creates a good amount of water turbulence and things are mixed well. I’ve not experienced any issues with my skimmer and heater caking up or clogging.

Thanks! I wonder why some of my equipment seems to be getting some kalk sediment on it…

on this topic, does anyone’s kalk hose get clogged up on the end where it comes out, even when constantly submerged? Would this be a reason to move the kalk line to, say, the drain section where there’s tons of turbulence hence removing the kalk sediment? It currently doses to the return chamber.

I added it to a high flow area in my sump where it could mix in rapidly.
it doesn’t matter where, does it? like is it a bad idea to move the line to the first drain section? Skimmer in the next section won’t affect kalk concentration, right?

Just pick the highest flow area of the sump you can, I set reminder to “unclog the dosing lines” and every week I use a pipe cleaner brushed to clean the kalk and other dosing lines as well.

Yes, that’s a common issue, but I would not submerge it. That leads to precipitation that wastes it.

Some folks combine the drip tip with ATO water to flush it out every day. I do that with AFR and my ATO.

The only location concerns are wanting a high flow area and the area near it may get local precipitation so dosing right into a pump I take is not best.
