Not sure why my toadstool is bent over recently. The polyps are fully extended and it’s color is normal. I’ve got many other leathers in the tank that are looking “normal”
I’m fairly new to reef keeping (1.5-2 years). And am trying to keep my hands out of the tank and I’m trying not to panic but it’s difficult when my showpiece toadstool is slumped over. Should I just wait, should I change the flow?

Your photo or video won’t open on my phone however toadstools do this often. Don’t touch or change anything they really hate change. Make sure you have phosphates and nitrates if you do your fine. Only thing is if it’s too too heavy cut the stem in half and create 2 toadstools.

I downloaded the video.
The angle does not let us see how he is bending... but I would not bother him trying to straight him up.
Polyps are really looking good. It might be something temporary.

Toadstools like a good amount of water flow around them. More so than you would think.

Its a japanese toadstool and looks nice, The portion that is not open is being irritated by the two anemone looking things called aptasia which is likely stinging the little polys. Do not change flow or look - looks just right
To rid of then: Using syringe, inject either lemon juice or better yet. . kalkwasser powder mixed with tank water into a paste the consistency of toothpaste and inject into the very center core and it will melt away

aptasia:

Sorry about poor video, your looking directly at the top of my toadstool, Normally when the stalk is extended the cap had been horizontal. I’ll sit tight.

many thanks

Will totally look into the aptasia. Double thanks for the coral ID. I wasn’t sure what type of toadstool it was.
Take care

Update- so today before the lights came on I noticed that the toadstool was upright without it’s polyps extended. It seems like lately it’s extending is polyps and flopping over, interesting.
This must be aspects of “leather behavior” I read about, grumpy leathers. Would be curious to know why?
Thank you

Toadstool-update
A mixture of time, a peppermint shrimp and tweaking the flow produced a healthy looking leather I think (although this is my first reef tank). I’m wondering if it was recovering from something. Because for a while it was slumped over in the morning and upright in the evening. Now it’s upright most i of the time. Oh well thanks for the help. I

Mine does this too, don't stress it. I agree with a post above about flow though, mine stands up tall during the high flow of the day. I ramp and do a good amount of flow most of the day due to sps, but I crank it for a few hours at night before lights out and that is when my toadstool likes it most. As it gets taller and heavier, more flow is required.
