Toadstool help

Had toadstool for 3 weeks and hasn’t extended like it did at LFS.
Salinity: 1.026
no3: 10.2
Po4: 0.07
Light: Kessil a360xe peaking at 15% intensity

My toadstools have been a little miffed with me for a while now too. I did find that they do not like a lot or direct flow on them. They also like to be lower in the (my) aquarium.

I have mine on bottom of tank with flow from the return pump so I’m not sure. 7 minutes after I took the picture it swelled up. Maybe camera shy

Was it already attached to a rock or did you do it?

It could also be getting ready to shed.

Also your intensity at only 15% seems very low.

I have an Innovative Marine 15 gallon cube. Light is a Kessil a360xe mounted at 9”. I’ve gone to 25% and it was mostly shriveled all day but only opened up during ramp up/down around ~10% intensity so not so sure what to do tbh

A mushroom and a zoa both did fine at higher intensity. Today I added 2 more zoas and a hairy mushroom so now 6 corals total now

You shouldnt be changing the light for every coral you add, if the other corals are good, all you do is move the coral around the tank, starting low to high par area.

Toadstools are tough but dont like being messed with, sounds like it has been through a lot since leaving the lfs, going from 10-25% in a couple of weeks is a lot of change.

Just upsetting it once can make it close for a week…from the pic it looks like its in a place it may like.

I would put your intensity back to what it was, pick a place for the coral and leave it be, if it starts to sulk only then consider a new location, if its party extended leave it alone for a couple of weeks, see how it goes.

Sounds like you are changing something then expecting to see an improvement within a day or so, it can take a week or more to see if the change is good or not.

Probably at the back as it will grow and shade other corals so consider that too, looks in a good place now but that powerhead is probably not helping at all, its way too low down in the tank, I would raise that as high as you can without sucking in air, you still get good flow with the added benefit of moving the water surface which greatly helps with exchanging co2 out of the tank which helps ph so a win win all round, where its at will not be helping at all.

Sorry but I have to say too you have a lot of sand, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but its normally deliberately something people do for a reason, maybe you have a certain fish that needs to sleep in the sand etc but consider how you are going to clean the sand or not clean the sand, what look you want the sand to have as it ages.

Yeah my zoas were kinda getting too much flow and were closed up so I was tryna play with the flow a bit. I ended up unplugging it and moved it back to the top already. When power head is at the top The tank gets a nice current circulation the rock scape but it looked a bit rough.
For the sand I do wish I used less when I put it. I’m not sure if I can take any out or if that’d be bad for the tank. But during my water changes(weekly) I vacuum the sand about 1/4 of the tank at a time

Removing the sand is fine, wait till your nutrients are on the higher side so you don’t drop them when removing some sand, you could remove a little every time you vacuum, also if you vacuum your full sand bed every time you vacuum, that is not a problem at all, as long as you don’t leave it for weeks then decide to clean it all in one go, that is when you can get issues, then a little at a time is best.
