I am posting to ask if anyone has seen this issue. My toadstool seems to have these hair like growths(for a better term) coming off of it. I pulled a few off this afternoon just to see. They seemed to pull about 2-5 inches in length depending.

My parameters:
Temp: 77.5
Salinity: 1.026
Ammonia: 0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 40
Cal: 390
Mag: 1380
Alk: 8.3
PH: 8.1
Phos: 0.12

40 Gal breeder: 7 months old
35 Lbs of Marco rock ( has really started to Mature)
10 lbs of Live Rock ( some from a seasoned tank, some from an LFS that grows it)

All HOB equipment:
Aquaclear 70: Running sponages and Carbon
HOB Nano Ice Box Skimmer
Popbloom RL60 Light ( only 1)
HOB fuval breeder box ( using as a place to grow Pods and keep 2 peppermint Shrimp

2 Hygger Cross Flow wavemakers ( slaved at 30 percent )

Coral:
Zoandiths ( 2 types)
Toadstool Leather
Blasto
Acan
Kenya Tree
Duncan
Candy cane
---None of the corals are currently knocking it out the park right now. Something is off in tank. Just starting running Carbon on regular last week.

Fish: ( feed half a cude of various frozen every other day plus seaweed on clip)
2 Clowns
1 Capenter Wrasse
1 Lawnmower Blenny
1 Bi Color Angel ( Juvenile)
1 Yellow Watchman Goby
1 pistol shrimp

Currently:
My tank is having what I would call a minor hair algae issuse. I am also starting to see what looks like Red Cyno in places.
All my fish seem to be happy and healthy. The corals on other hand seem to be shunned especially the Candy Cane

A bit of background:
Last week I did a 15 gal water change and added a small bottle of turbo start.
I have light set to come on at 10am and turn off at 930pm

I think there might be some weird trace chemical. I have never done an ICP test.

This is all I have please review the Picture and Video of the toadstool leather in question

A zoomed out pic would help but it looks like it’s reaching up for light. A 60 watt light on a 40 breeder is not very strong, I have a 150 watt on my 40 breeder. I think you need more power.

Slight Update:
i just bought a Hanna tester for Alk and Phos
ALk tested: 7.4
Phos tested .12
could the lower Alk reading on Hanna be more accurate. I would presume it is because Salifert is a drip test ( hate those)

That alkalinity is really low, chemistry is definitely at play here. That specific light you have is also recommended at 2 for a 40 breeder if I read about it correctly. If your corals are doing poorly id focus on chemistry and light.

Yes thanks, I am upgrading lights soon. Been spending to much money on softball for kid but that is slowing down. I am looking to probably get 2 RL90s or maybe get some AI primes not sure just yet

I totally understand. Id focus on that chemistry first anyway. In time things will turn around 👍

Not primes for this tank. The 2 x 90rl is a good choice but have a look at 150 or 200 watt nicrew. They are good lights at good price.

yes thanks, I eyed the Nicrews i will look at more in depth
My plan is to buy 1 RL90 right now and use in conjunction with rl60 for a few weeks and purchase another RL90 and use the RL60 for some other propose. Unless one 150/200 watt nicrew would do the job so I do not have to do a bunch of rearrigning my HOB equipment for a 2nd light

Okay so if I'm understanding correctly what you're doing is actually pulling the polyps off of this toadstool coral. That's what those projections are in that first picture. If that's what you're doing please stop.

If you are still using that 60 watt light, then that is still the problem. My 40 breeder has 150 watts. My happy toadstool is in a 15 gallon tank with a 55 watt light. IMO improve your light and your results will improve.

You may be seeing Ctenophora. A common hitchhiker on leathers that appear like a web. They are mostly harmless.
