Hello y’all,

Got a neon green toadstool, and for the first month was happy with nice extension everyday. A month ago I added a lid and since the polyps never fully extended. Tried dicking around with the light a bit but kind of guesses as to how much more I should give for the lid addition so I gave up and figured just let it adjust to whatever the light intensity is at. A week ago tried a turkey baster incase it had residual mucus from a shed that I hadn’t witnessed. No luck. A few days ago I noticed a black area on base, not sure if it’s growing or just the same. See photo below.

And water parameters are:
Ammonia 0
No3 3
PO4 0.09
Ph 7.95-8.13
Salinity 35
Alk dKH 7.2

Had a couple saline crashes, from ato which I thought might be an issue, but is now backed up with an additional shut off.

Toadstools (all leathers) get moody for days, even weeks sometimes. Just keep the parameters stable, your nitrate is very low. It is adaptable to different lighting, but IME it does well in medium light and higher flow. I can't see a black spot though.

Yes I’ve been dosing nitrates and feeding heavy to slowly bring it up. Here’s another photo perhaps this one shows it better.its on the “stem”

Not really sure how to get a clearer picture aside from pulling the specimen as I’m zooming in through 20”+ of water. If it continues to grow/spread I will pull for a clearer photo.

Update on this?
Sadly died. Uncertain if this is the cause. Black spot spontaneously resolved though never fully extended its tentacles again. I think it was being picked on by a CBS. Both died in my QT while display tank went under hyposalinity for flukes.

Shoot I’m trying to understand why this long polyp toadstool I’ve had for about a month now won’t fully extend its polyps. It only kinda extends
