I had a dwarf angel that secretly picked on mine, didn't open for almost a month, then noticed him picking at some SPS, got rid of him and the leather has been open since.

Check out my tyree toadstool thread:
http://reef2reef.com/threads/tyree-toadstool-issues.273673/

Had the same problem.
He wanted more flow lol and he also wanted to attach to the rock rather than his plug.
He is fully open now, every day. Ill be adding more flow soon but thats all it took. He shed twice too in the process. He isnt fully extended but with more flow I have faith :)

I've prob fragged my leathers about 8-10 times... All have opened the next day but 1(Small one bottom center). Everytime I frag them I take the whole rock out and place it in a tub to make my cut. The one that took approx 40 days to come back I cut him in the tank... The only reason I cut outside of the tank is to protect other corals so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Only other thing would be when you fragged it were all the polys retracted into the base?

80 is too high for leather. I had one leather coral closed for 3 months when I got it from a friend, turned out I had constant 80 temp, when I changed to 75-77 it is open from that day. And whenever temp goes to 80 it closes. I have a smaller one which stays open at 80. Only this bigger leather had a temp issue. Hope that helps anyone.
