So we finally found a solution to the hair algae in the 330. Tear it down. Tomorrow everything goes. Rock sand everything. lfs is holding our fish getting rid of ALL of the rock for new rock. We figured that the branch rock this guy traded in and was cured had a SERIOUS hair algae problem.. even with peroxide in the tank it came back. This is what it used to look like. I'll post pics when the new rock is in. Hopefully I'll like it as much

That is heartbreaking, how bad is the hair algae?

It took over the tank. All the corals are out and doing fine in a seperate tank at ARC some fish died from the peroxide others got disease from being stressed. It was the rock with the red Goni in the pic that spread it throught the tank. When we get this problem fixed we'll start stocking again. It just sucks because the rock looked awesome. Its going to be all synthetic rock I think too

Before taking it down have you tried Mexican Turbo Snails? If you were to put lets say 25 - 30 of them in your tank the hair algae would be gone in a matter of a couple of days. They are so large that they are easy to get out and trade to your local store once they have taken care of the issue.

Beautiful set up. it sounds like you have probably tried everything but I had hair algae take over my tank a while back. I tried a combination of about 5 things but the most effective was a sea hare. I could see new sections he had mowed down every morning when I woke up. Good luck.

We had turbos in the tank when it started in the first place. Tons of them. They ate it but it grew like crazy. Wish i had taken a pic because literally all of the rock was just covered in it like your lawn is covered with grass. It went away with the peroxide but is now coming back again.

Hope everything works out for you. Make sure you keep an eye on ALL of your parameters...i did this a month ago and forgot the pH. The drop was too much a couple of my sps pieces.

I finally beat my battle with patience, Tech-M, 5/2 light on/off cycle and lots of water changes... It is really hard when the rock has all the trapped nutrients in it and you need to let them leach out. If you like the rock, why not acid bath and cycle again?
