Too much flow, not enough light or something else?

these 3 recordia are usually bending up off of the rock. I thought it was flow, but I could see from some particles moving in the water that it is rather low and as for light, if anything, I had been concerned they might get too much here. What is the likely issue?

Mind bend up and do all kinds of acrobatics. I think they look great. They seem to thrive in light and medium flow. Some do well on sand. Some do well higher. They seem to acclimate well anywhere. I have some who have grown in a dark hole. I've lost several in my tank and when I found them, pretty much no flow and extremely low light and they still thrived.

Usually when they bend upwards and start growing a long base, it means they lack enough light or space around them, it’s just the way they reach closer to the light or look for more space to expand, and it is completely fine.

In some edge cases it may show a sign they are preparing themselves to disconnect, the difference is the way the base looks. If it seem to be slowly detaching, I would put it in a mushroom box and move to another location.

No, I’m not really a master, but that’s what I observed and experienced in my time growing them.

It’s one of the first corals I acquired 17 years ago and been collecting them ever since.
Given that the export/import regulations for them is a bit tricky where I live, it took quite some time to get to where I’m at now, even though in the US and even Europe they are widely available.

I live in Florida not too far from where some of them are collected and I still have trouble getting interesting ones. Unfortunately, a power outage here during the summer last year overheated my tank with no air conditioning and they all died. I'm starting over.

That's terrible. I hate that.

It was a shame. Everything died but the rock flower anemone, which was as happy as ever in 90-something degree water.

I’m sorry to hear that, it sounds terrible :crying-face:

You are correct, not all variants of Ricordea Florida actually live in Florida, there are a few stunning variants that grow only in Cuba, and are very hard to come across these days.

I did see some variants with mixed orange/green colors when I visited Reefapalooza in Orlando a couple of years ago, and I wish I had one in my collection. Since most of the rics in my country were imported more than a decade ago, there is very little hope that someone here has it, but I thought the same about other variants, and I proved myself wrong.
