Noticed my torch’s flesh receding a bit two days ago, however today I noticed part of the polyp actually lifting up from the skeleton. Is there anything I can do to prevent/stop this?

I’ve had it for about 3 weeks now and it seemed healthy up until I noticed this.

I haven’t checked parameters since 1/29 but these were the latest numbers:
Salinity: 1.026
Alkalinity: 10.6
Calcium: 400
Magnesium: 1200
I know my nutrients (nitrates and phosphates) are also on the higher end since I have nps gorgonians in the same tank.

When this happened to me, I soon lost the torch. I'm not sure of the exact cause, but my coral beauty was picking at a lot of corals at that time.

looking at your parameters, your numbers are a bit wonky(ALK generally is in the 8-9, CAL 420-450, and MAG 1500 range), but if kept stable i don't see how it can cause bailout. my guess is that flow might be too strong.

I don’t have any fish that would pick at it. I have shrimps and hermits too but they all seem to leave it alone so I’m ruling that out for now.

Yeah I’m in the process of switching out the salt, the alk was way too high, so it’s slowly going down now over a couple weeks. But besides that I feel like it’s relatively stable, no spikes or anything.

I’m thinking it might be flow related so I turned it down a bit but I’m just confused how the coral can be in the tank for 3 weeks and only now showing signs of bailout?

they take time to adjust or show signs of distress at times. sometimes we forget that the water parameters and biodiversity of the tank the coral was previously in is very different from our own tank. sometimes the different is drastic enough to warrant an immediate bailout, or STN/RTN, etc.

Yeah that makes sense. I did do slow drip acclimations for my more sensitive animals like the torches and clam so hopefully it’s just adjusting.

Would you suggest moving it though, to a spot with less flow? I do have it towards the front glass and the return pumps hitting the glass does make the flow push the torch back.

Does the flow always pull one way like that? The polyps should sway back and forth

it does seem to go mostly towards one direction but I just thought since it wasn’t too strong/intense it would be okay?

It’s the green torch on the bottom, flow has been turned down in intensity but direction and pattern is mostly the same from before
